About us

 

The First Wesleyan Methodist Church is the Mother in Seniority of the black churches in Dayton, Ohio.  In its 170 years of history, it has been blessed with Pastors who have had a significant influence in the church's history.

The church has stood as a beacon light in the Dayton Community from Civil War days up to the present.  Its mission has been to guide , direct and encourage all human kind in the ways of helpful service and Christian living.

Presently with Rev. George B. Coles, as pastor, the church continues to be benchmark in the history of Dayton.  Striving to follow our mission and vision statements:

Senior Pastor Rev. George B. Coles

Rev. Coles is married with two children and the grandfather to four children.  He has a Masters of Arts in Christian Ministries (United Theological Seminary) and a B. A. Political Science (Hampton University). Rev. Coles is a graduate of the Dayton Neighborhood Leadership Institute.  Rev. Coles has been a member Northwest Priority and Board Chairman, City Managers 2003 Advisory Committee, City of Dayton Citizens Financial Task Force and Co-Chair Citizens Drug Commission.

 

Rev. Coles has held the following Ministerial positions:

-Senior Pastor First Wesleyan Church – Current

-Associate Minister at First Wesleyan Church - January 2011 – October 2020

 -Associate Minister Valley Grove Baptist Church- April 2007 – Oct. 2011

-Associate Minister Omega Baptist Church – Dec. 2003 – April 2007

-Men’s Ministry Leader

-Superintendent of Sunday school

-Christian Orientation Committee
